Choosing a trigger¶
Six options:
- Scrolls into view — plays as it enters the viewport, and reverses when it scrolls back out.
- Follows the scrollbar — ties progress to scroll position, like a video scrubber, instead of playing once.
- The page loads
- Clicked
- Hovered — plays while the pointer is over it, and reverses when the pointer leaves.
- Each time it appears — restarts from the beginning every time it scrolls into view; never reverses (unlike "Scrolls into view").
Hover an effect and the trigger it suits lights up while the ones it doesn't dim, with the reason on hover; picking an effect on a section with no animations yet pre-selects that trigger. These are hints, not rules — every trigger stays available for anything you want to try.
The trigger belongs to the section's timeline, so changing it changes when every animation in that section starts. The card says so once a section has more than one animation.
Trigger settings… under the card opens the scroll start and end positions and the advanced options (pinning, and choosing a different element to trigger from). Where a field names an element — the trigger element, the pin element — you can click a crosshair and pick it on the canvas instead of finding it in a list.
